“Entrepreneurs come to us with fresh, early design inspirations who ask, ‘can you help me?’” says RBB president Bruce Hendrick. “They have a great idea, but often lack specific plans and timing to grow the business beyond a certain point. This was exactly the case with a developer of a new mobile sensing system. Not interested in committing to a sales forecast, they came to RBB because they heard we handle new product batch sizes in stride. We quickly paired them up with an electronic design firm and in short order brought their idea to fruition, with no strings attached.
Before its strategic move in 2007 to focus exclusively on small-batch assemblies, RBB had expensive in-house design engineering talent – and this cost was passed along to every client, whether they used it or not. “We actually sat down and did the design work with them. Now, we introduce them to one of several talented electronic design firms, and then work collaboratively with them to get their new products out to the marketplace.”
